The
ACE season begins with a day of practice matches in December. Competition
starts in January. Each match is broadcast on KURM radio. The competition
generates a great deal of excitement in each school. Student bodies attend
and the matches take on an atmosphere similar to a sports event. The event
showcases academic skills, recognizes and promotes academic excellence,
and has a positive influence on the academic interest of all students. ACE
makes it "cool" to excel academically.
The top three
teams meet in a championship match with the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place receiving
$2000, $1500, and $1000 respectively. These funds are used by the schools
for academic projects and scholarships for deserving ACE competitors.
In addition, the Northwest Arkansas Community College provides seven scholarships,
one to each school in the finals.
